I have to say, hands-down this is my favorite book in the Dark Olympus series. Wicked Beauty is the third book in the series and follows Helen, Patroclus, and Achilles. I'm not sure why, but the Dark Olympus books just didn't resonate with me as much as the Wicked Villain ones, but this book really hit all the spots. Maybe because it followed the more Wicked Villain formula of non-traditional, more poly relationships or because Katee really began to depart from the established Greek mythology, this book really shone.
In this book, Helen decides to take control of her life by entering the competition to become Ares. Unfortunately, the prize for the competition is not only the title of being head of security for Olympus, but marriage to herself--raising the stakes even higher. She's being pitted against the sexy, hunky Achilles and her childhood friend Patroclus, who has grown into a stunner as well. Other contenders also range from her abusive ex Paris and the mysterious out-of-towners Minotaur and Theseus. Will Helen be able to win the three trials or will she be forced to give up both her dreams and her freedom?
The character development and relationship development was again on point. I really don't get how Katee Robert is able to flesh out such well-rounded characters in such a short time. Helen is a girlboss and you really see how growing up in such a powerful family constantly embroiled in power struggles and toxicity has shaped her and her motivations. Achilles' backstory also helps you understand his drive and desire to become Ares. And our little sweetie Patroclus is such a cutie that just wants the best for everyone.
The chemistry between the three is sizzling, and they all complement each other in such different but beautiful ways. As usual, Katee writes such sexy scenes and I love the way their interactions change after being together.
I loved this book, and I would definitely recommend!
